Wonderful – the best point & shoot for my needs.,
This Optio is a throwback to the original Pentax WP Optio that I purchased in 2005. I have been searching for something like it for years. It has a FLAT COVERED lens that does not move outside the camera body. My original concern was dust and dirt, I could put this in my pocket or hornbag and not worry about it. When I saw that it was considered waterproof, I felt that it had to be very tightly sealed. It was. Pentax’s later Optio models had a lens that would protrude – not good for what I needed. I ended up buying a couple of used original WPs since I didn’t like the newer models. The only problem I had was lens scratches. But these cameras were worked HARD, in dirty, gritty, windy places. Not to mention dropped a few times.
When I saw the new WG -2 and saw that lens, I knew that I had to have it! I threw caution to the wind and purchased the GPS model. If I wasn’t in landlocked Montana, I might be able to tell you about its waterproof capabilities. So far I have used it in a bit of rain and on a few cold and snowy days. I have had problems with other cameras “locking up”, or refusing to focus on very cold days. Not these babies! They don’t seem to mind the cold.
The only thing I don’t like is that it is considerably larger than the original. It will not fit in my jeans pocket. I guess that I’ll get over it.

|A great little camera,
I was looking for a camera that i could take kayaking and was tuff. I was not going to baby it. This is a camera that i clip to my belt loop gets beat up and gets wet. It’s a no muss, no fuss camera. I travel and wanted a camera that can tag where the pictures are being taken. It will be interesting traverseing the different hemispheres to see if the tagging is still accurate. I also wanted a camera that could manually turn the flash on or turn the flash off and would fit in my pocket. This is the camera. You can also manually turn the digital zoom on and off – those are some nice features. I also like the feature that will tell you where to aim it for those of us who like to do self portraits with our friends. I will say that you burn through the battery while on GPS – that is the only downside to the GPS feature. Buy an extra battery. The only other feature i dont like is that when you swap batteries, you loose stuff like the time and date. I wish it had an extra CMOS battery to retain all the settings. It does all the standard stuff and has cool some photo editing features built in. I have not used the movie/video yet but will. It should be interesting to see how much space it uses on the card.
All in all, an exellent camera for the cash.
