Works for Canon PowerShot SX40 HS,
I bought this battery as a backup battery for the Canon PowerShot SX40 HS camera and it fits the camera and charger just like the original. I’ve been known to shoot up to 2000 pictures a day, so a backup battery was a necessity. I would prefer AA batteries for ease of use while traveling, but that’s more an issue with the camera design. At just $13 on sale, this was a cheap alternative to Canon’s proprietary battery. It says the cell is made in Japan, and the rating on it (1200mAh) is higher than on the Canon battery that came with the camera (920mAh). I’ve recharged it twice so far and it takes less than 2 hours to charge, which is great. I was able to get 1000 pictures on one charge (including a few short test movies), which is about comparable to what I got out of the Canon battery on its first charge. Time will tell how it will hold up under repeated use, but so far it seems to work fine.
Update: After recharging a few times, the battery life seems to be more around 600 pictures. I got 1000 only out of the very first charge. This is consistent with the original Canon battery, which behaved exactly the same. So far I cannot see any difference in performance between the two batteries and they last for the same number of pictures. I was hoping that this one would last longer than the Canon battery due to its higher rating, but that does not appear to be the case.

|Excellent and cheaper version of canon battery,
I own three of these “generic” brand NB-10L batteries. So far, so good with no problems. I purchased the new Canon SX40HS camera a few months ago and wanted a spare battery or two for long day trips that may keep me from my charger until later that night (or the next day or two). I’m sure the specific/actual Canon batteries are great, but for the costs, I just couldn’t justify speading so much money on just an authentic canon battery. These work great and hold a charge just as long as the canon battey does. I haven’t seen any scientific lab testing comparing the two brands, but my experience has been very positive.
I haven’t seen any “generic” wall chargers out there yet, so I went ahead and purchased the authenic Canon battery charger for their NB-10L batteries……no problems with compatibility between the canon charger and the “generic” brand batteries. Everything works just fine. The generic brand charges up to “green” status just as quick as the authenic canon batteries does……within a few hours.
Unless someone can show me some conclusive data that the actual canon battery out-performs the “generic” brand by a large margin, I’m sticking with these for the future. Also, I won’t beat myself up if I accidentially misplace or lose one of these $15 batteries.
